Data report on renewable energy installed capacity in Asian countries

According to the latest annual statistical report of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), in the past 10 years (2015-2024), Tajikistan's (abbreviated as: Tajikistan) renewable energy installed capacity increased from 4957 MW to 5738 MW (almost all from hydropower stations), an increase of 15.8%.In Central Asia, Uzbekistan's renewable energy installed capacity increased the most significantly, reaching 174.5% (from 1882 MW in 2015 to 5166 MW in 2024). This significant growth was due to the construction of new solar power stations (total installed capacity of 2275 MW), hydropower stations (511 MW) and wind power stations (500 MW). The proportion of renewable energy in the country's total installed capacity increased from 14.2% to 24.4%.

Kazakhstan's renewable energy installed capacity also achieved a significant increase, an increase of 93.1% (from 2807 MW in 2015 to 5419 MW in 2024). The growth mainly comes from new wind power plants (1,336 MW), solar power plants (1,139 MW) and hydropower plants (132 MW). Renewable energy accounts for 22% of the country's total installed capacity, up from 13.2% in 2015. At the same time, Kyrgyzstan's installed capacity of renewable energy has fallen by 11.4% (from 3,677 MW in 2015 to 3,258 MW in 2024), and the IRENA report does not specify the specific reasons.

Turkmenistan's total installed capacity of renewable energy was only 1 MW in 2015, and it will be 2 MW in 2024.

Tajik President Rahmon pointed out at a recent government work meeting that since independence, the country has implemented 36 national projects in the energy field, focusing on improving power generation capacity and optimizing power grid infrastructure, with a total investment of 89 billion somoni (8.5 billion US dollars). During this period, the country's new installed power generation capacity exceeded 2,000 megawatts, and power generation increased from 17 billion kWh in 1991 to 22.4 billion kWh in 2024.

It should be noted that the country's total installed power capacity was 4,413 megawatts in 1991. Since independence, the country's installed power capacity has increased by 45.3%, while power generation has only increased by 31.7%.
