Border towns are developing rapidly, and the China-Laos Railway has achieved mutual benefit and win-win "acceleration"


The China-Laos Railway connects Kunming, Yunnan, China, and Vientiane, the capital of Laos. It is the first international railway in the "Belt and Road" initiative, with China as the main investor, Chinese technical standards, Chinese equipment and direct connection with the Chinese railway network. The Mohan Station of the China-Laos Railway, located on the border between China and Laos, is the only national-level railway port leading to Laos from my country.

The China-Laos Railway has been in operation for 15 months, and Mohan, a border town located at the southernmost tip of Yunnan Province, is ushering in rapid development. The cross-border freight trains between China and Laos have become a unique landscape here.

Every morning, the first thing Wang Junfeng, the deputy station master of the China-Laos Railway Mohan Station, has to do is to understand the international transport plan of Mohan Station that day. Relying on his rich experience in port work, Wang Junfeng came here in October 2021 to participate in the preparation and operation of Mohan Station. At work, he witnessed that Mohan Station grew from scratch and became increasingly busy because of the China-Laos Railway.

The total length of the China-Laos Railway is 1,035 kilometers, from Kunming in the north to Vientiane, the capital of Laos in the south. Through this railway, tropical fruits from Southeast Asia can enter China in as little as 26 hours. As a result, Laos has realized its dream of changing from a "land-locked country" to a "land-linked country".

Just this month, the total volume of international freight on the China-Laos Railway exceeded 3 million tons, and cross-border logistics transportation covered Laos, Thailand, Myanmar and other countries.
